Refugee nuns

Christian Century, Oct 9, 2002

Nuns exit from an airplane after French and U.S. air forces flew some 200 refugees from Korhogo to an airport in Yamoussoukro, the Ivory Coast's capital city, September 29. French and U.S. troops started evacuating foreigners by air that day from Korhogo, a northern town still held by rebels after an 11-day uprising. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands have fled their homes since a failed coup attempt turned into a wider conflict that has left swathes of the northern Ivory Coast in the hands of rebels.
