* A weekly publication that provided a "soap box" for Presbyterian pastors for 66 years will no longer be published--a victim of declining circulation and increased competition from the Internet. Monday Morning will cease publication at the end of the year after the removal of a church subsidy five years ago made it hard to continue publication.
The formerly free magazine had a difficult time attracting paid subscribers, Presbyterian News Service reported. Only retired pastors received a free copy after 1996, courtesy of the PCUSA's Board of Pensions. Many of the features of Monday Morning will be incorporated into two other church magazines, Presbyterians Today and Ideas. Nevertheless, church officials are exploring ways to revive the magazine in cyberspace after a survey found that 66 percent of nonsubscribers would be interested if it was free on the Internet.
