Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary

Christian Century, Nov 20, 2002

* John Mulder, longtime president of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, has resigned abruptly, citing failing health. Mulder, 56, led the seminary for 21 years. In his October 26 resignation letter, Mulder said he still feels a sense of call to the seminary but wants to spend more time with his family.

"As you know, I have had a number of health problems in recent years, and recently learned that I have suffered some mild strokes," he said. Since coming to the seminary in 1981, Mulder doubled the size of the faculty, increased the number of endowed chairs tenfold and raised the endowment from $11 million to $73 million. A respected scholar on Presbyterianism, he helped bring the headquarters of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to Louisville and helped design the church's logo.
