... A city attorney in Sparks, Nevada, inspired by recent legal objections to displaying the Ten Commandments in an Alabama courthouse, ordered an employee to cut "God" out of all the "God bless America" signs still hanging in city hall since September ll. The mayor replaced the signs himself (Chicago Reader, November 7).

... Although the Evangelical Lutheran Church is the established religion of Denmark, the country has ruled that those who worship the Norse gods Thor mad Odin may now conduct legally recognized marriages. "To me, it would be wrong if the indigenous religion of tiffs country wasn't recognized," said Tove Fergo, the Danish minister for ecclesiastical affairs and a Lutheran pastor (Toronto Star, November 8).

... The newest edition of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary includes the word "McJob," defined as "low paying and dead-end work." But McDonald's CEO has cried "McFoul," saying that the term is "an inaccurate description of restaurant employment" and is "a slap in the face to the 12 million men and women" employed by the restaurant business (Yahoo! News, November 9).
