Benjamin Britten. A Ceremony of Carols and other choral works
Christian Century, Dec 4, 2002
New London Children's Choir. Ronald Corp. Naxos 8.553183, $7.99.
A Ceremony of Carols is a 22-minute cycle of songs for three-part treble choir with harp. Britten set the 14th- and 15th-century texts with fresh melodies reminiscent of that time, drawing on his experience with folk music. The other music on this CD (for treble choir, mostly with piano) has been recorded less frequently, but is similarly attractive.
