Nonprofit exec salaries rise, says newspaper

Top officials at U.S. nonprofit organizations saw a 6.7 percent median increase in their salaries last year, the Chronicle of Philanthropy reported. And topping the selected list of religious groups' executive salaries were Paul and Jan Crouch of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, based in Tustin, California.
TBN President Paul F. Crouch earned compensation of $403,549 and $3,392 in benefits, while his wife, Vice President Janice W. Crouch, earned $347,365 in compensation and $3,392 in benefits. Their total compensation was 0.4 percent of the television ministry's $192 million income, the paper reported in its October 4 issue.
Other figures on Christian groups from the Chronicle's tenth annual survey:
* Michael D. Little, president of the Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach, Virginia, earned $202,690 and received benefits of $22,976, and network co-host Terry Meeuwsen earned $166,761 and benefits of $22,758. Their total compensation was 0.3 percent of the ministry's $151 million income.
* World Vision President Richard E. Stearns earned $235,297 and benefits of $21,608, and John Reid, senior vice president of the Federal Way, a Washington-based relief organization, earned $142,948 and benefits of $17,192. Their total amounted to 0.1 percent of the organization's $468 million income.
* Kenneth F. Hackett, executive director of Catholic Relief Services, earned $210,000 and benefits of $25,825, while Mark Palmer, the Baltimore-based organization's finance director, earned $136,955 and benefits of $17,386. Their compensation was 0.1 percent of the organization's $373 million income.
* Focus on the Family President James Dobson is listed as receiving no compensation. Diane Passno, executive vice president of the Colorado Springs, Colorado-based ministry, earned $126,562. Her compensation amounts to 0.1 percent of the group's $129 million income.
