Nonviolence …

Christian Century, Jan 16, 2002 by J.T. Moore

I AGREE WITH Richard Kauffman (as quoted in William Vance Trollinger Jr.'s "Nonviolent voices," Dec. 12): It seems essential to the Christian faith to preach and to practice nonviolence even when it is not the most efficient or effective response to violence. I would argue that there is such a close connection between being a follower of Jesus in both word and deed and being a pacifist that those who do otherwise are not truly "Christian" no matter how much or how strongly they may profess and proclaim otherwise.

Like James Juhnke, "I know who I am," and would ask the supporters of violence just who they think they are.
