Davey, Goliath back on TV next Christmastime
Christian Century, Jan 25, 2003
The first new Davey and Goliath program in almost 30 years is slated to hit the small screen next December under a deal signed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The ELCA, which produced more than 70 Davey and Goliath episodes between 1960 and 1975, will team with the characters' original creators to produce an hour-long holiday special.
A tentative story line, say producers, has Davey learning religious tolerance with his Jewish friend, Benji, and his Muslim friend, Yasmeen. The story is centered on the Christmas, Hanukkah and Ramadan holidays and features the trio in a fast-moving snowboarding setting.
Eric Shafer, ELCA communications director, said one-third of the show's costs has already been raised.--RNS
