* Three girls were killed in a Christmas Day attack on a tiny church in eastern Pakistan. Witnesses said two assailants dressed in burqas--all-encompassing garments worn by women in some Muslim countries--threw an explosive device into the middle of worshipers at a Christmas service. About 40 people, all of them Pakistanis and most of them women and children, were in attendance at the church in Chianwala, which is northwest of Lahore.

Thirteen people were injured. Newly elected Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali called the attack "dastardly" and said it was designed to "foment religious and sectarian strife" in Pakistan.
