* A further indication that the Catholic Church is no longer on the periphery of British public life has come with the news that Queen Elizabeth has invited Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, archbishop of Westminster, to stay at Sandringham, her Norfolk estate, over the weekend of January 12-13 and to preach to the royal family at the Sunday morning service.

The service consists of Morning Prayer from the Church of England's 1662 Book of Common Prayer. It is the first such invitation to a Catholic prelate. "I am greatly honored," the cardinal said through a spokesman. He said he sees the invitation as a further sign of the queen's determination to promote ecumenical relations.
