Nine Queens: Fabian Bielinsky, Argentina, 2000. - movie review

Film Comment, March-April, 2002 by Chris Chang

Spry Argentine con-game revolving around the ownership of ridiculously valuable Weimar-era stamps. Visually understated to foreground tight-lipped character minimalism, it works best when it keeps you guessing, which is pretty much constantly. Think Ocean's 11, minus nine, with Spanish subtitles. (And without that goddamn smugger-than-thou faux-groove soundtrack.) (opens Apr. 12)
