Film Comment, May, 2001 by Paul Volpe
Film buffs, Francophiles, and the blase smokers of the demi monde flocked to the Waiter Reade Theater for ten evenings of sold-out French films at the Rendez-vous with French Cinema series. Every film was a NYC premiere and several had already garnered prestigious Cesar nominations. Directors and actors flew in to introduce films, sip champagne, and ignore me at the receptions.
Cest' la vie. The New Directors/New Films series is always appropriately scheduled in the spring Nothing like budding new talent to liven up a series of post-screening parties. NO attitude and NO bodyguards with this crowd ND/NF is nothing tess than a celebration of raw creative energy that only the young possess, and something we all can appreciate.
