From the Ebony files - Memorable Photos - Emmett Till - Brief Article
Ebony, August, 2002
Mourners pay their last respects to 14-year-old Emmett Till at his funeral in Chicago. After traveling to his mother's native Mississippi, Till, on August 28, 1955, was kidnapped and murdered by White men near Money, Miss., after he allegedly whistled at a White woman. Till's mother insisted on an open casket so people could see and never forget the brutality.
His death was a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement.
