Where does TC go from here? Music world mourns Lisa Lopes as group plans to continue her legacy - L - Entertainment - Biography
Ebony, August, 2002 by Glenn Jeffers
A businesswoman herself, Lopes created Left Eye Productions and signed the Atlanta group Blaque. As TLC returned to the studio and released its third album, Fanmail, Lopes' Blaque delivered a hit in 1999 with the R. Kelly-produced song "808." Lopes went on to produce songs for a number of big-name artists, including Montell Jordan, Donell Jones, N'Sync and Melanie (Sporty Spice) Chisolm.
In 1999, Lopes discovered the Usha Nutrition Center in Jutiapa, Honduras. According to friends, Lopes found inner peace and solace at the healing center and spa after years of personal instability. She bought land near the spa, built a condominium and frequented Honduras over the past few years, usually spending up to a month at the center for rest and mediation. According to reports, she could be found on the beach near her condo playing volleyball with local residents or shooting pool in a one-room, tin-roofed club called Billares Yancsy. She even convinced her uncle, Anthony Lopes, to move there, where he still lives with his fiancee.
Continuing to stabilize her life, Lopes adopted a little girl named Snow last year and later joined Suge Knight's Tha Row record label and nicknamed herself N.I.N.A. (New Identity Non Applicable). Additionally, she was promoting another R&B teen group, Egypt, to record labels at the time of her death.
Lopes' Web site (www.eyenetics.com), describes her as "a supernova, a rare star that can increase its brightness up to a billion times at any given moment." With incredible talent and an energetic personality, Lopes increased the brightness of her own star and made music history.
