Congratulations to EBONY for the article, "Howard University: Mecca Of Black Education" (May 2003). As a parent of an alumna who studied for her first professional degree and then continued as a postgraduate physician at Howard University Hospital, I am convinced that Howard is an institution of EXCELLENCE. The article will surely encourage bright, high achievers to consider choosing Howard.
Without any disparagement implied concerning the performance of former presidents, I would like to note that since H. Patrick Swygert became the president, some significant projects have been accomplished. The ultramodern Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library, the new Law School Library and the LeDroit Park Initiative are worth mentioning.
