Artist spotlight: Regina Belle
Ebony, August, 2004
REGINA BELLE is back with a soulful, jazzy album that harks back to the glory days of soul music. LAZY AFTERNOON (Peak Records) was produced by master music man George Duke, and it presents a wonderful collection of R&B staples, jazz standards and mood torch songs. Belle offers languid sensual performances of the Broadway tunes "Lazy Afternoon" and "If I Ruled The World," and she stretches out on the Brazilian tune "Corcovado." She picks up the tempo with the breezy "There Is A Love" and the Isley Brothers "For the Love of You." Through it all, Duke's presence is felt.
He played keyboards, arranged the tunes and assembled a great group of musicians, including Christian McBride, Alex Al, Ray Fuller, Dean Parks, Everette Harp, Oscar Brashear, Lenny Castro and Gordon Campbell.
