Sisterspeak
Ebony, August, 2004 by Troy Smith
Regarding the Sisterspeak column, "When Dating A Dad, Respect His Children" (June 2004), Thank you, Lord! The world of dating can be just as challenging for men as it is for women with children. Being a dedicated father is a gift, and many Brothers know firsthand they must be present in their children's lives in order to break the cycle of absentee fathers. Yes, Sisters, there are Brothers who desire to be a part of their children's lives and know what this does to the mental well-being of children when the new woman does not support us in our lives. Children as well as fathers know when you are faking. The positive interaction a father and children share when they are young will have direct impact as to what type of relationships these children will have when they become adults.
Brothers, keep your heads held high if you are among those who are stepping up to the plate. Do not let another Brother take your place, for it is rather difficult to explain to your children why you were not there.
