Black Men/Cutting Edge

Ebony,  August, 2004  by Leon Jr. Glymph

It was refreshing to see your article, "Black Men On The Cutting Edge" (June 2004) about Dr. Joe Miller, a nuclear engineer, Walter Hood, a landscape architect and Harold Martin, an engineer and professional race car driver. African-American youth need to know that rappers, singers, the NFL and NBA are not the only careers.

I work in the public schools as a certified prevention specialist and, for the most part, African-American males are convinced they are going to be a celebrity as a sports star or entertainer regardless of their talents. Such youth are living in a fantasy world.
