Three Mo' Tenors - Letters To The Editor - Letter to the Editor

Ebony, Sept, 2002

This is to commend your article, "Three Mo' Tenors" (June 2002). At the suggestion of a friend, I tuned in to a PBS presentation that aired in this area in early June. The program featured an operatic presentation by the three tenors. Like most, I had seen excerpts of their Italian counterparts from time to time. I was awestruck by what I heard in that the only difference was that these were three Black men performing with the same aplomb and vocal quality as the Italians.

The program later branched into various other genres of swing, jazz, blues, musicals, etc., all performed with such wonderful expertise by the tenors, collectively and individually. I am at a loss to accurately describe my joy, appreciation and pride.

Your article was a timely adjunct to this television program, inasmuch as I had previously only heard the name "Three Mo' Tenors." I hope that many others were equally as impressed by the program and your article.

I read with interest your article, "Three Mo' Tenors," and the photographs are certainly much desired collector's items. Having seen Three Mo' Tenors in concert, I found this feature such a timely reminder of my delightful experience. Kudos aplenty to the trio who heard opportunity knocking and answered. Those of us fortunate enough to attend a Three Mo' Tenors concert are glad the "game has changed," because we definitely are unaware of any entertainers "singing seven styles and 400 years of music in three different languages in an hour and a half."
