Queen Latifah and EBONY Magazine have been good friends for years. We documented her career when she first debuted as a rapper and have marveled at her Midas touch when it comes to making creativity sell. In this one year alone, she has been nominated for an Emmy, courtesy of Nelson George's HBO movie, Life Support, has had several movies come out, including Hairspray, which already has earned Oscar buzz, and she is introducing a new album right now. And there's plenty more enterprise that you can read about in her story starting on page 84.
Latifah is hot, in more ways than one. In her spare time, she and her family and friends like to burn up the road on motorcycles. We thought it would be fun to show that adventurous side of this dynamic woman whom so many have come to love. Sure, she's wearing her new Cover Girl Queen Collection makeup, developed with celebrity makeup artist Roxanna Floyd. Definitely, she remains about business. The night before our photo shoot, she attended the New York premiere of Hairspray. During prep time she was studying a script. Immediately following our shoot, she headed to a homecoming celebration in Newark, N.J. But thanks to fashion stylist Susan Moses, who put her in a catsuit and patent leather (and who also has helped her design a new line of full-figure clothing, Dana O, that rolls out this fall), Latifah transported all of us to open country--in style. Once again, the Queen proves that daring to be yourself and pursuing your dreams can inspire others to want to hitch a ride.
