Reginald (Reg) Weaver is president of the National Education Association, a union of teachers, which is the nation's largest union. As head of the Washington, D.C.-based, 2.7 million-member organization, he coordinates a national staff and advises local and national officials on education policy.

He also is a strong voice for educators in the news media as well as other groups. Weaver earned his bachelor's degree in special education for the physically challenged at Illinois State University. He later received his master's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
