Father-and-daughter flight crew - Speaking Of People - Brief Article

MIKE and NICOLE LEWIS are the only father-and-daughter flight crew with a major airline. He is a Southwest Airlines captain and she often flies as his co-pilot. Mike Lewis attended the University of Southern Colorado, where he majored in data processing. He began flight training in 1970 and received his flight instructor's rating before flying cargo planes for several airlines.

He joined Southwest Airlines in 1994. Nicole Lewis, who has flown with her father since she was a toddler, received her private pilot certificate in 1994 when she was 18. She worked as a flight instructor at the Sunbird Flight School until 1999, then was hired by Great Lakes Aviation as a first officer. She was later promoted to captain at the age of 22. Nicole, who joined Southwest Airlines in 2002, graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor of arts degree in interpersonal communication. She is single and lives in Gilbert, Ariz. Mike Lewis also lives in Gilbert, Ariz., with his wife, Karen. They have another daughter, Simone.
