CLARK W. JOHNSON is the first Black president of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering, a 60-year-old society that advances the science and engineering for the development and application of advanced materials and processes technology. Johnson is also a system engineering project manager with Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in the National Security Programs Organization in the satellite systems division in El Segundo, Calif.

Previously, Johnson worked at Lockheed Martin Corporation and evaluated and produced thermal protection materials for the Space Shuttle Orbiter. He also was a member of the NASA Space Station Materials and Processes control board. The engineer earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Grambling State University, and master's degrees in chemistry from the University of Denver and in business administration from Pepperdine University. He completed the Executive Management Course at UCLA Anderson School of Business. Johnson and his wife, Sharon, live in Agoura Hills, Calif., with their children, Justin and Lauren.
