I'll Find a Way Or Make One
Ebony, Nov, 2004
I'LL FIND A WAY OR MAKE ONE (Amistad/HarperCollins, $35.00), by Juan Williams and Dwayne Ashley, chronicles the history of historically Black colleges and universities. The book gives readers a historical perspective of how HBCUs were established, many in the wake of the Civil War, by Black and White abolitionists and freedmen to educate the newly freed slaves.
The book is filled with photos, historical narratives, personal memoir, archival and contemporary material and anecdotal and resource information on each of America's 108 HBCUs. All royalties from the book sales will be donated to the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund founded in 1987 to raise funds for merit scholarships and provide programmatic and capacity-building support to 45 HBCUs.
