Black quarterbacks - Letters To The Editors - Letter to the Editor

Ebony, Dec, 2001 by Alfonso Savage, Jr.

The article, "Is the NFL's Black Quarterback Boom Real" (Oct. 2001), left out one of the best quarterbacks to be drafted in the 1999 class, Shaun King. In 1999, he was one of only six rookie quarterbacks to start a playoff game since the 1970-71 NFL-AFL merger and one of only two rookies to win a playoff game.

He is the fourth Black quarterback to even reach a conference championship game. He also led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to consecutive playoff berths in 1999 and 2000 for the first time in almost two decades. The only current Black quarterback that has made it further than King in the NFL postseason is Steve McNair.
