Making the switch: from full-time worker to at-home mom - Parenting
Ebony, Dec, 2003 by Nikitta A. Foston
Since Kimberly Crowson has become a full-time mom, she is often asked if she considers going back to work. "It's a tough decision because society says that you need two incomes to live, but we're doing very well with one," she says. "And as children get older, it's even more important to give them guidance. They need someone to walk them through the stages of growth, and I want to do that. A job would not provide that same sense of self-worth."
Inspired by their faith, the Crowsons' simple philosophy of teaching, communication and balance has allowed them to transition seamlessly into their new lifestyle arrangement. "We're committed to keeping our family strong," says the mother of two. "We try to remember the little things like spending time together, listening to one another and sharing. Now that we have more time together, those little things mean so much. We cannot afford to take them for granted."
