TIS the season for great holiday music, and the options are exceptionally good this year. Soulful balladeer WILL DOWNING gets you in the mood with his Christmas, Love and You (GRP), on which he is joined by Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Joe Sample, Jonathan Butler, Najee and David Sanborn. Legendary vocalist DIONNE WARWICK offers My Favorite Time of the Year on her DMI Records, the first holiday recording in her long, illustrious career.
Among the great tunes is her "I Believe in Christmas" duet with BeBe Winans, who wrote the song. Jazz vocalist DIANNE REEVES also releases her first-ever holiday recording, Christmas Time is Here (Blue Note), on which she performs with a warm, reflective sensibility that reflects her holiday mood. Adding a light and festive flavor to the holiday offerings is SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS with The Night Before Christmas II, featuring new original songs from the group's theatrical production, The Night Before Christmas-A Musical Fantasy.
