Artist spotlight - Sounding Off - Sound Recording Review

Ebony,  Jan, 2004

With verve classic styling and a beautiful voice, jazz singer NNENNA FREELON delivers on her new recording, LIVE (Concord Records). On this first-ever live recording by the talented vocalist, composer, producer and arranger, she offers several never-before recorded selections, including the Reggae-influenced "Body & Soul" and the mournful "Meaning of the Blues." There are also Freelon's showstoppers, including "If I Had You," which she performed in the Mel Gibson movie What Women Want.

She also enthralls with Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour" and "Tears of A Clown." During this show at the Kennedy Center, Freelon, a master story teller, demonstrates convincingly that live performances are her passion.
