Comfort with a touch of Luxe - spring fashions - Brief Article

Ebony, Feb, 1999 by Eunice W. Johnson

The Parisian and Italian ready-to-wear collection for Spring/Summer '99 appears to be inspired by comfort with an added touch of luxe. The gowns are sensuous and clingy with fabric that feels so good that one would like to "live in them."

Both Christian Dior and Christian LaCroix seem to have had a thing about angling stripes. However, LaCroix went a step further by pairing a floral-printed top with a swinging striped skirt, and he was able to blend the marriage well. Sonia Rykiel has been known to stripe her knits in clever-sized stripes and colors but always with comfort in mind.

Accessories such as John Galliano's "bird nest" hat lets you know that Spring is "bursting out all over." That also is the message with Sonia Rykiel's flowered hat with lace rosette over the eye and on the top of the head of a model in a two-piece striped midi. She even throws in a fur fling with the knit to let you know that you should never try to be too comfortable without adding luxury.
