February is a short month that is long on possibilities. Not only a celebration of Black love and Black history, the entire month is devoted to carnival activities around the globe, climaxing with Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, on Feb. 27 this year. So before the somber season of Lent descends, gather your mate or your date and toast the resiliency of our people. Check your city for special events to celebrate this season of love.

WHAT'S HAPPENING WHERE

ATLANTA

* Sweat. Play on Apartheid and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. 7 States theatre. Feb. 3-25.

* My One Good Nerve. Jomandi Productions' play by Ruby Dee. 14th Street Playhouse. Feb. 7-11.

BALTIMORE

* Barbara Chase-Riboud: The Monument Drawings. Her first exhibit in the U.S. since 1973. Walters Art Gallery. Through Feb. 18.
