How to raise drug-free children - Letters To The Editor - Letter to the Editor

Ebony, Feb, 2002 by Brett Larkin

I want to say how much I enjoyed the article, "How To Raise Drug-Free Children" (Nov. 2001), about parents who are taking the time to speak to their children about drugs. I was really impressed with the part about parents giving their kids the straightforward approach instead of coming up with some skit or something elaborate.

There was one thing within this article that I disagreed with and that was the part about teaching children when they enter preschool. I feel that even in this new generation that teaching a preschooler about drugs is too early. I feel that parents should wait until their children are at least in first and second grade before telling them about the dangers of drugs. I think they might be able to understand it better at that time.
