Black America celebrates lives of greats - Letters to the editor - Letter to the Editor

Ebony, Feb, 2004

I am writing in response to the article, "Black America Celebrates Lives Of Greats" (Dec. 2003), specifically about my cousin, Lt. Col. Michael Anderson, who perished on the Space Shuttle Columbia in February.

Michael was born on December 25, 1959, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., not in 1960, and not in Spokane, Wash. He simply considered Spokane his hometown since he lived most of his life there.

I was very excited when I saw the article, "Black America Celebrates Lives Of Greats." I just knew I was going to see my brother's name, but much to my dismay the name of Edwin Starr wasn't there.

Granted, he was not as famous as many of the others listed, but I do believe he made an impact in Black America. He died on April 2, 2003.
