The world of Nat King Cole
Ebony, Feb, 2005 by Lynn Norment
Though it's been 40 years since his death, Nat King Cole's music is just as fresh and entertaining today as it was during his illustrious career. Long-time and new fans will be thrilled with The World of Nat King Cole (Capitol/EMI), a new collection of the best from the classic crooner that tells he story of Cole's recording career with Capitol Records.
After being one of the first artists to sign with Capitol in 1942, Cole recorded more than 150 pop, R&B and country charting singles. Among the 28 hits on this single disc are favorites such as the kicky "Straighten Up and Fly Right," romantic ballads such as "Mona Lisa," "When I Fall In Love" and "Unforgettable" (there is also a duet version with daughter Natalie Cole), country flavored "Ramblin' Rose," the vibrant "L-O-V-E," which he recorded in several languages, and the spirited "Route 66" and "Day In-Day Out." Nat King Cole was one of a kind, and we are fortunate that such quality recordings of his magnificent voice are available.
