Romance: a retrospective
Ebony, Feb, 2005
ROMANCE is in the air, and there are many ways you can set the stage for a Valentine's Day evening that will be remembered long after Cupid's day has come and gone. In addition to planning a lover's celebration that revolves around luscious, sensuous foods and just the right sparkling beverage, you would be wise to select attire that will set the mood and keep your partner's mind and eyes on you, and you only.
New York-based fashion stylist Carlton Jones suggests setting the scene for a romantic evening with retrospective ambiance by wearing creamy white attire that will convey a distinctive style inspired by the elegance of yesteryear, but also subtle if not overt sensuality.
"Feeling great in the clothing you wear has always been the quintessential key to classy dressing," says Jones. "The major inspiration for this photo story, which previews a selection of spring 2005 attire, is the style and elegance from past years. Here, we incorporate elements of periods past while updating them so that they fit comfortably in your wardrobe today. But more importantly, the clothing should fit comfortably on you.
"I chose silk, satin and a supple cotton jersey, all taken over the edge of luxury and embellished with fur, diamonds, pearls and sequins. These elements are basically the 'bling' of past eras but presented with a timeless class that will never go out of fashion or style.
Jones adds that the color palette of creamy hues of whites and caramels reflect one of the season's biggest trends. "But it also gives the special occasion of Valentine's Day an irresistible purity that will ravage and enthrall the special one you are sharing this special occasion with."
