Raheem DeVaughn, Jersey-born and jazz influenced (dad is jazz musician Abdul Wadud), lends silky vocals and respectful lyrics to Love Behind The Melody (Jive Records). "Woman," his dope single, has been nominated for a Grammy. He's compassionate on "Mo Betta" ("Even as a man, I cry sometimes") and on "Butterflies," which re-creates the harmony of Boyz II Men. "Shut the Club Down" is a danceable track and smartly pays tribute to DeVaughn's influences, such as The Temptations. The CD is laced with strong guitar performances and messages of social consciousness with "Energy," featuring Big Boi from OutKast.
