Rosa Parks

Ebony,  March, 2006  by Portia Owens Tillman,  Stacey A. Womble

I was pleased to see "Remembering Rosa Parks" (Jan. 2006). I encourage others to hang her picture in their homes just as they do for male civil rights leaders. We consider Mrs. Parks to be the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement," so we need to tell that story so young people will know that many of their experiences today were not always available to our people. It is our duty to inform.

Thank you for that issue.

Mrs. Rosa Parks, may you forever rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord and Savior. May the angels rejoice and sing that you've made it home.

Thank you, Mrs. Parks, for your legacy that you've left behind. Thank you for your courage and integrity to say, "Enough is enough, I will not move!" Thank you for your tireless effort to fight for justice for all. Thank you, Mrs. Parks, for being the Queen of our hearts and the catalyst that started the Civil Rights Movement. I would not be where I am today, if not for you and so many other heroic leaders.

We give honor and thanks to you, Mrs. Parks. We shall never forget, and our children will never forget the struggle of our people.
