Paula D. Cunningham is president of Capitol Bancorp's flagship bank, Capitol National Bank in Lansing, Mich. Cunningham, the third president of Capitol National Bank since its creation about 25 years ago, is the first woman and African-American to hold the position. She is responsible for all operations of the bank, including overseeing business development, and managing human resources and marketing.
Cunningham previously worked at Lansing Community College (LCC), where she served in a variety of roles, including six years as president. She also served as vice president of planning and college relations; executive director of marketing, community, and board relations; director of professional development; and associate professor in the management and marketing department. Prior to LCC, Cunningham owned and managed the Mason Hills Golf Course. She is a keynote speaker, panel member and facilitator for a variety of local and national organizations. She also hosted a weekly talk radio program for more than six years. Cunningham earned a master's degree and a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University.
