Chronicles of Black Courage - Letters To The Editor - Letter to the Editor

Ebony, April, 2002 by La'Dondra Wilson

I would like to say that I immensely enjoyed the article, "Chronicles Of Black Courage" (Feb. 2002), featuring Mary McLeod Bethune. As an African-American female student, I have become aware of the importance of education from pioneers such as Mary McLeod Bethune.

After reading the article, it's simply impossible to take the convenience of a good education for granted. Realizing the struggles that transpired in the past to guarantee an appropriate education for today's youth allows me to be more appreciative now than ever before.

Mary McLeod Bethune exemplified the courage that should be an attribute in all of us, especially aspiring students.

I would like to thank Mr. Lerone Bennett Jr. and EBONY magazine for writing and publishing such an inspirational article.

The "Chronicles Of Black Courage" series, which features people like Mary McLeod Bethune, motivates young African-American students to persevere in an effort to achieve those things they desire. I encourage you to continue to keep a spotlight on African-Americans.
