Black College Queens 2002

Ebony, April, 2002

THE Black Campus Queens, of 2002 have shown--on their campuses and in their communities--that they have that something extra that sets them apart. Their beauty is in their accomplishments as well as in their appearance.

Listed alphabetically, the 2002 list includes elected queens from historically Black colleges and universities, and Black queens from predominately White schools.

Some aspire to be doctors and lawyers. Others want to work in advertising or on the stage. Still others want to educate the next generation and work in underserved communities. But the common thread is that all of them have a plan--goals they've set to ensure that their light shines brightly in the years ahead.

Miss Tougaloo College is Jenny Jacquelyn Moman of Jackson, Miss. A senior English/pre-law major, she plans to attend law school and become a corporate lawyer.

Brandi Tilley of Dallas is Miss Paul Quinn College. The senior secondary education major intends to pursue graduate studies in school administration and teach high school biology.

Miss Stillman is Chinai J. Hardy of Warner Robins, Ga. The English major is involved in student government and spends her leisure time swimming, reading and traveling.

Sherita L. Bailey, Miss Alcorn State University, is a senior English literature major and native of Fayette, Miss. She wants to pursue a doctorate and teach on the university level.

Morenike Hood is Miss Alabama State University. The senior elementary education major from Detroit enjoys reading, dancing and shopping.

Miss Alabama A&M University is Madelyn B. Howze. The music education (voice) major plans to continue her studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Miss Benedict College, April L. Kelley, is an Anderson, S.C., native. The education major plans to study at New York's Julliard School.

Tia D. Williams of Annapolis, Md., is Miss Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. She wants to become a budget analyst and entrepreneur.

Miss Coppin State College is Crystal Brown. An English/media arts major, she plans to pursue a career in music and journalism.

Miss Albany State University is Tracia N. Cloud. The Atlanta native is a business information systems major who is involved in student government.

Miss Bennett College is Monica P. Gaymon. The goal of the biology major is to obtain a doctorate in the sciences.

Miss Claflin University is Lavetta Germany, a senior majoring in biochemistry. She plans to pursue a doctorate in pharmacology.

Regina V. Thompson, a senior, is Miss Delaware State University. The information technology major's school affiliations include track and tennis.

Ramona Y. Whitehurst, a senior mathematics major from McClellanville, S.C., is Miss Allen University. She plans to become an educator.

Christy Chanel Collins, a senior music education major; is Miss Bethune-Cookman College. She plans to pursue a music career.

Monica C. Lindsey is Miss Clark Atlanta University. The senior chemistry /biochemistry major wants to open a women's health outreach facility.

Miss Dillard University is Candi Nash. The senior mass communications major plans to pursue a career in media advertising.

Natasha Torrence is Miss Barber-Scotia College. The Charlotte, N.C., native is a mass communications major who cares for the disabled in her spare time.

Miss Bowie State University, Tiana Howze, is a senior marketing and business administration major. She writes poetry in her spare time.

Miss Concordia College, Lorina A. Washington, is a sophomore psychology major. The Denver native aspires to be a psychiatrist.

ShaLonda Dennis, Miss Edward Waters College, is a senior majoring in business administration. She enjoys volunteering at her church and spending time with youth.

Chrishanda A. Rodgers is Miss Elizabeth City State University. She is an English major who wants to work in public relations and marketing.

Tai Irby, a speech and theater major, is Miss Fayetteville State University. She enjoys writing and pubic speaking, and plans to pursue a film and television career.

Miss Fisk University is Alicia N. Perry, a native of College Park, Ga. The senior chemistry/pre-med major tutors in her spare time.

Nicole E. Sims is Miss Florida A&M University. The senior elementary education major from Orlando, Fla., was a student senator and presidential ambassador.

Miss Florida Memorial College, Floretta Jones, is a senior psychology major. She hopes to go to graduate school and study Christian counseling.

Miss Fort Valley State University is Antorinetta Dyer, a senior psychology major from Atlanta. She wants to become a psychologist.

Ne'El Ravette Whitehurst is Miss Grambling State University. The senior majors in computer information systems and business management.

Miss Hampton University, Tiffany L. Jenkins, is a senior from Silver Spring, Md. A psychology major, she is a peer counselor who hopes to become a child psychologist.

Miss Harris-Stowe State College is Nikia S. Jones of St. Louis. The management information systems major plans to become an entrepreneur.
