Michael S. Steele is a Maryland and an American historymaker. In 2002, he became the first African-American lieutenant governor of Maryland. In 2000, he was the first African-American elected state Republican party Chair in modern times. Steele earned a bachelor's degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University, a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and founded the Steele Group, a business and legal consulting firm based in Largo, Md.

In addition to his full-time work, he also hosts the Baltimore radio show Lunchtime with Maryland's GOP. The 1995 Maryland State Republican party man of the year and his wife, Andrea, are the parents of two sons, Michael and Drew. The family lives in Largo.
