Ebony,  April, 2003

On the recording IN BRIGHT MANSIONS (Curb Records), THE FISK JUBILEE SINGERS showcase the talent that has made it a legend since its first public performance in 1871. This is a collection of spirituals that range in character from "I'm Got a Home in-a Dat Rock" to "Were You There" to "Rockin' Jerusalem," all from the Jubilee Singers' repertoire.

Director Paul T. Kwami, himself a Jubilee Singer in the 1980s, directs the 16 exceptional voices that blend harmoniously as they demonstrate incredible control. At times the choir sings delicately, barely above a whisper; at other times it explodes with exuberance. For more than 130 years, the Fisk Jubilee Singers has been delighting multiracial audiences around the world, and this recording captures the essence of the extraordinarily talented ensemble.
