Creating dream spaces: Chicago couple maintains character of historic home - Brief Article
Ebony, April, 2003
WHEN Kevin and Kim Lee first moved into their red brick home in Chicago's Jackson Park Highlands area, they knew there was work to be done. If they wanted to create the space of their dreams, they knew they would have to maintain as much of the character of the home as possible. That's often the hardest part of renovating--especially if your home is more than 100 years old.
Through consensus, Kevin, a lawyer who grew up in Chicago, and Kim, a psychologist from New Orleans, have followed their grand plan. And by taking a hands-on approach, they've been able to make sure things are done right.
"It takes a lot of patience," Kevin Lee says. "You have to be committed to saying, `I'm going to live through the dust.' And it turns out better."
