Louisiana Speaker Pro Tempore - Speaking Of People

SHARON WESTON BROOME is the first woman elected Speaker Pro Tempore of the Louisiana House of Representatives. She was elected to the legislature from East and West Baton Rouge parishes and was re-elected to her fourth term last October, receiving 80 percent of the vote. Broome is also a member of the Health and Welfare Committee and House Executive Committee.
A native of Chicago, Broome received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and a master's from Regent University in Virginia. She is a public affairs manager at Georgia Gulf Corporation in Plaquemine, La., and an adjunct instructor at Louisiana State University and Southern University. She and her husband, Marvin Alonzo Broome, have three children and one granddaughter.
