La-Van Hawkins - Letters To The Editor - Letter to the Editor

Ebony, June, 2003

I just finished reading your article, "How La-Van Hawkins Rose From The Projects To A Private Jet And A Multimillion-Dollar Empire (April, 2003), which I found extremely-interesting and had much food for thought. More of the world should know about him. The word "determination" sticks in my mind. Mr. Kevin Chappell should be congratulated on this story.

I truly believe that Hawkins' entire life should be made into a major movie. There is so much that Blacks, Whites and the rest of the world need to know. It would be especially helpful to our young Black males.

Praise God! Praise God! I thank you so much for printing the story on La-Van Hawkins in your April issue. You just don't know how much this story inspired me! The Lord is definitely La-Van's light and salvation.

I was so inspired that I keep the article on my desk at work and reread it over and over. According to your story, I don't think this child of God has a college education, and neither do I, but my dreams are big just like his, and I will definitely be encouraged by this story.

I do believe that you will never leave where you are until you decide where you would rather be. For this Brother to rise as he did proves that Jesus does live!
