The Dating Dilemma - Letters to the Editor - Letter to the Editor
Ebony, June, 2003 by Andrea Smith
Your article, "The Dating Dilemma: Who Should Pick Up The Check" (March 2003), was long overdue. When I ask a man out on a date, I usually bring enough money to cover the check. I offer to pay the bill, but my date usually declines my offer. I often compromise and leave some money for the tip.
Men argue that since women want equality, they should not mind paying for dinner. On the first couple of dates, the man should pay, but once a couple has been together for a while, the woman should feel comfortable enough to pay the bill. If a man pressures a woman to pay the bill because she asked him out on a date, then he is not worth dating.
