Black engineer of the year

DALLAS DELANEY has been named 2004 Black Engineer of the Year by Black Engineer magazine. Delaney, 41, received the award based on his 13-year history in project management, operations and engineering with Abbott Laboratories, and for the design and implementation of Abbott's software-controlled chemical processing and production system.

As manager of new product launch for Abbott's pharmaceutical and hospital products, Delaney serves as a manufacturing liaison between product development, business development, regulatory affairs, marketing affiliates and quality assurance. He received Abbott's Chairman Award in 1994. Prior to joining Abbott, Delaney held posts in electrical engineering with Hallmark Cards and AT&T Technology Systems. A native of Kansas City, Mo., Delaney earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas. He lives in Libertyville, Ill., with his wife, Marcia, and sons, Brandon and Dallas Jr.
