Brown v. Board

Ebony, July, 2004 by Van G. Garrett

I thoroughly enjoyed the special section on the "50 Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education" (May 2004). By providing insightful contexts and pertinent details about this momentous occurrence, the reader is aware Brown did not just legally affect policy as it relates to education, but it did indeed destroy the infrastructure of Jim Crow, thus providing inalienable rights for people of color.

Your honest reporting about the NAACP's role in the decision, Chief Justice Earl Warren's agreement to insert the "with all deliberate speed" clause in 1955, and how some courts were apprehensive about busing provides a well-rounded perspective of how important and revolutionary this movement was.

Your timely salute was educational and informative. Kudos.
