5 questions for: Omarion

Ebony,  July, 2005

Just over a year ago, Omarion (born Omari Grandberry) was riding high on wave after wave of success with the "boy band" B2K. For two years, the group sold out tours and made fans scream across the country. When that all came to an abrupt and confusing end, fans wondered who would come out on top. Wonder no more. With the blistering and somewhat unexpected success of his debut CD, O, Omarion, 20, is poised to take his place among the top-selling and most popular R&B acts of the day. With a burgeoning career in film under his belt--he had roles in You Got Served and Fat Albert--Omarion is ready to take it to the next level.

1. What's it like for you, now, being a solo artist? What are the main differences and challenges?

Being a solo artist brings with it a lot of hard work. Going from being a part of a group to being a solo artist, you realize that you are now the center of attention and that everything you do musically is now reflective of you. You can no longer rely on anyone else--the rest of your group. It's been a wonderful experience so far. I've grown so much as an artist with this album.

2. What did you learn about yourself from your time in B2K that you're able to take with you now and for the rest of your career?

To live and learn. I've learned how to better handle situations, and I've matured.

3. Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life and music?

My mom, my manager, Marques Houston, and my peers. My peers in this industry give me the incentive to work harder at my craft, and to want to exceed to levels above and beyond what I am at now.

4. What are your future career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Films? Writing more music?

To maintain longevity. I see myself recording many more albums, making more films, getting more involved in the business aspect of the music industry, and maybe working with my own artists some day. I would also love to get involved in a clothing line.

5. Are you dating anyone right now? What types of women do you like?

I am single right now. I like women who are intelligent, have ambition, are fun, outgoing and are "real."
