Negro First In Sports (Johnson Publishing Co., first published in 1963): A.S. "Doc" Young's comprehensive history of Black breakthroughs in sports, brings to light the achievements of such little known pioneers as Bill Richmond, the first American boxer of note and Willie O'Ree, the first Black hockey star.

In addition, Young recounts familiar stories about legendary traiblazers such as Jackie Robinson and Althea Gibson.
