Baroque Duet. - sound recording reviews

Ebony, August, 1992 by Lynn Norment

Lyric soprano Kathleen Battle and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis harmoniously pair voice and solo instrument on Baroque Duet (Sony), on which the dynamic duo performs works by Bach, Handel, Scarlatti and others. They are accompanied by the Orchestra of St. Luke's (conducted by John Nelson) and Anthony Newman on harpsichord and organ continuo.

A sampling of the recording was featured on PBS's nationally broadcast Great Performances series. Baroque Duet highlights the magnificent individual talents of Battle, who has won three Grammy Awards, and Marsalis, who has eight Grammys and is renowned as both a classical and a jazz artist. This first collaboration is a triumphant showcase for the two stellar performers.
